Okay, I know I wasn’t going to post here until after the new year, but I just got word that Black Moon, the latest novel by my client Jo Hiestand, won the N. N. Light Award for best mystery/thriller/suspense book of 2019!
Set in bucolic England, Black Moon follows ex-police detective Michael McLaren as he investigates the demise of a successful but widely disliked mystery author. Was her death an accident, as it initially appears, or a murder planned by a jealous colleague, resentful family member, or shady acquaintance? Complicating matters is the surprise arrival of Melanie, a former client and McLaren’s first romantic interest since the passing of his fiancée. As their relationship deepens, so does the danger surrounding them, and McLaren finds that solving this case may lead to another death of someone he loves.
In addition to its twisting plot, Black Moon showcases Jo’s beautifully descriptive prose and impeccable ear for language. It’s a fun, well-crafted book, and I couldn’t be happier to see it get the acknowledgement it deserves.
If you want to check it out, I’ve linked to its Amazon page above and here.
Yay, Jo!
